- Challenging course layout
Good to know
- Course condition may be poor with dead areas and weeds
Signature
Severiano Ballesteros designed Alhaurín on the foothills behind Mijas, and the layout reflects everything he believed about golf: shape your shot or take the punishment. Fairways tilt against the natural slope, greens punish the timid lay-up, and there is a par-3 nine attached for short-game practice — Seve's own idea, and one of the most genuinely useful warm-up complexes in southern Spain.

When to play
Inland Costa del Sol — slightly cooler than the coast, slightly drier than Marbella. October through May runs comfortable. February through April is peak visitor season. Summer plays at dawn only; the Mijas hillsides hold heat into late afternoon.
Fees & value
Mid-tier Costa del Sol pricing, and for a Ballesteros-designed course it is meaningful value. The pitch-and-putt nine is included in most packages and is worth using before the main round — your wedge game will thank you.
Access & etiquette
Handicap certificate typically requested for the championship 18. Dress code is standard Spanish golf — collared shirt, soft spikes, no athletic wear. Booking advised, especially weekends.
Getting there
Thirty minutes from Málaga airport (AGP) via the A-7 then the inland turnoff. Combine with the Mijas village walk and the coastal Playa de La Cala beaches for a half-tourist, half-golf day.
