The course

Las Caldas is the municipal course outside Oviedo — built into the green Asturian countryside, accessible by design rather than by accident, and a genuine entry point to Spanish-north golf for the visiting traveller. The routing rolls through pasture and wood, the conditioning is reliable mid-tier given the public-access mandate, and the design refuses to gate-keep itself behind handicap thresholds. The course earns its regional standing through accessibility and atmosphere rather than championship pedigree; the surrounding spa village adds a register the strictly tourist circuits cannot match.

When to play

The Atlantic-north calendar applies: May through October is the comfort spread, with June and September offering the best combination of weather and quieter tee sheets. July-August has the most reliable conditions and the heaviest regional visitor traffic. Winter is wet; rounds play on dry windows. The green peaks in late spring after the long wet season.

Welcoming handicap policy — genuinely visitor-friendly with no aggressive gate at the pro shop. Dress code is relaxed by Spanish golf standards: collared shirt, sensible footwear. Booking advisable in summer; outside the August peak walk-on slots are routinely available. The municipal mandate is real and the operational rhythm reflects it.

Getting there

Fifteen minutes by car from Oviedo, forty-five from Asturias airport (OVD). The Las Caldas thermal spa is adjacent to the course, making a spa-and-golf weekend genuinely effortless. Gijón and the Asturian coast are forty minutes north; pair the round with <a href="https://playascerca.com/en/region/asturias/" rel="noopener">Playa de San Lorenzo in Gijón or the Cabo Peñas wild-coast beaches</a> for the canonical regional day. The Picos de Europa national park is an hour southeast for the cultural-and-landscape extension.
